Step by Step

This walking tour lasts about 4 hours and allows you to get to know some of the most authentic bars in Seville. An expert guide will accompany you through the establishments and explain the history of Seville's capital.

Walking tours usually begin at the foot of the city's most controversial opera house: the Metropol Parasol, also known as the Seville Mushrooms. This is a gigantic wooden structure that protects some archaeological artefacts found in the subsoil. It also houses a viewpoint and a restaurant overlooking the Plaza de la Encarnación. The project was designed by German architect Jürgen Mayer.

A typical Andalusian bar is just a few minutes' walk away: El Comercio. It has been open for over 100 years and is a true Seville institution. After sitting on its stools, you will reach one of the most iconic areas of Seville, the Barrio de Santa Cruz.

Although today it is in the heart of the city, before the Christian reconquest by Ferdinand III it was outside the city walls and was home to the Jewish community. Among its most picturesque corners, it is impossible not to mention the Plaza de Doña Elvira with its fountain and the Callejón del Agua that winds along the foot of the old Islamic wall.

The guide will explain the history of the district, which is also home to more institutional monuments such as the Archivo de Indias and the Real Alcázar of Seville. In Calle Mateos Gago you will find one of the bars along the route: La Fresquita. It is decorated with scenes from Holy Week and is best known for its meat with tomato, serranitos and spinach.

A few metres further on is the Freiduría La Isla, one of the best seafood restaurants in Seville. Don't be fooled by the simple décor, the fried food is delicious and the beers are always very fresh.

Although Seville is not on the coast, the fish comes quickly from Cadiz. Therefore, eating fresh, quality dishes is a simple task. One of the star products is tuna, which you can try in the restaurant Atún, located just a few minutes from the Cathedral.

To finish the itinerary with something sweet, the guide will take you to the Confitería La Campana in the heart of Seville. It has occupied the same place since 1885 and, although it was renovated in the 1980s, it retains all its charm. Its almond tongues, polvorón cake and cortadillos de cidra are well worth a try, although the list could go on and on.

These are the main stages of the route. Please note that the order of the attractions and establishments may vary.

We liked the selection of dishes, everything was well served and with very good quality products. Some dishes were a bit cold but very good to the palate. The guide was great, I recommend him.
