Step by Step

On this tour you will have the opportunity to combine gastronomy and history to get to know Washington in all its facets. For about 3 hours, and in a group of no more than 8 people, you will have the opportunity to tour one of the most lively neighbourhoods of the American capital. You'll visit some of the best bars and restaurants in the area, where you'll be able to enjoy delicious dishes and a selection of menus.

With an expert guide, you'll discover the history of this area of the U.S. capital. You'll stroll through its famous streets and learn that music and a mix of cultures have shaped the neighbourhood's cuisine and architecture, giving the area a rich cosmopolitan heritage .

U Street is known for having been one of the cradles of African-American jazz in the U. S. During the 1920s through the 1940s, it was known for its live music venues and bustling nightlife. The neighbourhood has been the heart of black culture in Washington DC, and is today an area famous for its food and entertainment offerings.

Throughout the neighbourhood, you'll pass excellent bars and restaurants where you can stop for some of the best culinary offerings in Washington DC. Influenced by the mix of cultures, U Street is home to everything from Italian eateries to Cuban coffee bars.

In the Little Ethiopia area you can sample authentic Ethiopian food and enjoy the pleasure of eating with your hands, as is the custom in Ethiopia. U Street also has a market where you can buy fresh, local produce of the highest quality.

Along the way, you'll also have the opportunity to stop in front of the Lincoln Theatre, one of the few places where black people were accepted during segregation. You'll also stop by the African-American Civil War Memorial, a monument sculpted to honour African-American soldiers who served in the US Army.

On our own we would not have known which places to choose. The guide's company was essential to know not only about history, but also about every food, art, place or element that was passing around us.

The Cuban coffee and fish croquettes were my favourites. The streets we passed through were full of life. We loved it!

The tour was very entertaining and complete. The group was small, which made it easier to get to know the area in a lighter and more relaxed way.

U Street Food is full of wonderful places. In addition to the guide, the service received at each restaurant was very good.
