Hamilton is the musical everyone's talking about! One of the best Broadway musicals on the bill that you can see during your trip to New York.

Winner of 11 Tony Awards, the musical Hamilton was nominated for a whopping 16 awards, which is more than any other Broadway production has ever achieved.

If you'd like to see the breakout show of the last decade, this post tells you how to get your tickets, how much they cost and much more.

The musical Hamilton has become a real phenomenon in recent times. For this reason, I recommend you to buy tickets for Broadway online on websites like Hellotickets because there are shows with a lot of demand like this one and the theatres are crowded.

If you want to get good tickets to see Hamilton on Broadway, from experience I advise you to buy them online as early as possible. Doing so will give you several advantages:

  • You are guaranteed the best seats on the date of your choice and at a better price than at the box office.
  • By booking online, you will be able to choose the seat you like best in the theatre.
  • You won't have to rush to the theatre to queue forever at the box office and try to get tickets when you can use that valuable time to take a Hamilton character tour of New York.

Did you know that the American ticket market is dynamic? This means that prices go up as the date of the musical approaches and supply decreases (for example, as do flights) so if you wait to buy them on the day of the show or a few days before you run the risk of tickets selling out or becoming unavailable, at exorbitant prices and in sectors with less than spectacular visibility.

Tickets to see the musical Hamilton are among the most expensive on Broadway, averaging around $300.

Keep in mind that on weekends and certain times of the year such as summer in New York or Christmas in New York, prices can go up because it is high season and many people take advantage of their holidays to visit the Big Apple.

Where is the best area to see the musical Hamilton?

The theatre where Hamilton is performed, the Richard Rodgers Theatre, is one of the largest on Broadway so, in general, anywhere is a good place to enjoy the show.

Typically, the most expensive tickets are in the centre of the theatre in the Orchestra area (from here you can see the whole show) while the Front Mezzanine (with views closer to the stage) and Rear Mezzanine (with views further away from the stage) are in the second and third rings respectively. Try to find the tickets that best suit your budget and expectations.

What to expect from the musical Hamilton?

You may know the names of George Washington or Thomas Jefferson (politicians of great importance in the history of the United States) but perhaps the name of Alexander Hamilton (another of the founding fathers of the country) is a little less familiar to you.

This musical tells the story of Hamilton, an orphan from the Caribbean who, after a series of circumstances, ends up coming to the United States and becoming a very important figure in both the War of Independence and the first government of the country.

What is truly captivating about this musical is that the story is told in an innovative way and with a very original perspective that surprises the spectator: to the rhythm of rap, with hardly any dialogue and through a daring and interactive staging with an abundance of amazing lighting and sound effects. It is the biggest Broadway hit of the last decade.

What level of English do I need to see Hamilton on Broadway?

Hamilton is one of the few Broadway musicals for which you will need to have a good grounding in English because the cast sing quite fast and use a lot of puns, so if you don't have some fluency in the language, it can sometimes be easy to get lost.

However, you can find the full soundtrack and lyrics on the Internet, so if you are not fluent in English, I advise you to check it out before the show so that you can familiarise yourself with it and get into the spirit of the play.

Make sure you get to the theatre at least 30 minutes early because if you arrive late and the show has already started, you may not be allowed into the theatre.

The musical Hamilton is intended for an adult audience because there is some "strong language" in the dialogue.

However, the theatre is open to children aged 4 and up who have their own ticket, although it is more suitable for children aged 10 and up who have a good level of English.

There is no specific dress code for attending a Broadway musical. It is customary to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing. Kind of like smart-casual etiquette, since no one is usually overdressed as if it were the opera.

Should I have dinner before or after the show?

This depends on the session you are going to and the sightseeing schedule you have prepared for the day of the performance. In any case, I recommend you eat something to eat before you go in, as Hamilton is a long performance and it's not as enjoyable if your stomach is rumbling.

Nearby you'll find plenty of options for a bite to eat as the theatre is located near Times Square, a very central area of New York City. Everything is always open there and it's easy to find a place to kill your hunger pangs. For example:
