Mob Museum in Las Vegas: tickets, price, hours...

The Mob Museum opened on 14 February 2012, the 83rd anniversary of the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. It is designed as an interactive and visual trail that traces the history of organised crime in the United States and the countermovements of the police and FBI.

It is located in the old post office and is undoubtedly one of the most interesting attractions if you are planning what to see and do in Las Vegas. Nevada's most populous city is intimately linked to the goings-on of the underworld. If it wasn't for an intuition of mobster Bugsy Siegel, the area would still be a desert today.

The recommended option

Las Vegas The Mob Museum Tickets

A one-day ticket to enjoy this interactive museum.

The Mob Museum delves into the history of organised crime in Los Angeles and the rest of the United States. You will learn about the gangsters' biographies and the police operations to counteract the violence of the criminals.

You've probably seen a movie set in Las Vegas in which the mob plays a major role. In fact, it is said that without this criminal organisation the city would not have been built. With tickets to The Mob Museum you can explore the history of organised crime in Sin City.

Its interactive exhibits make it a very attractive and entertaining visit, and you'll also be able to see some real objects belonging to members of the mafia. The museum is located just a few minutes away from one of the most interesting areas of the city, Fremont Street.

Recommended if... you want to learn about the history of organised crime in Las Vegas and its influence on the development of the city.

How to get to The Mob Museum Las Vegas by public transport

The cultural institution is located in the business district and historic centre of the city. With public transport, the best option depends on where you are leaving from. Here are the best options from two main points of the city:

  • The Strip, the street that concentrates the best casinos in Las Vegas. If you're staying here, you can take The Deuce bus. Get on at the NB Las Vegas at the Paris stop (opposite the casino of the same name) and get off at EB Stewart after 4th. The museum is less than a five-minute walk away. The Deuce operates 24 hours a day.
  • McCarran International Airport. Here you have two options. The first is the 109 bus from the Terminal 1 arrivals exit. You will get off at WB Clark after 4th and walk a few minutes along 3rd Street. The alternative is the CX bus. It departs from the same location but, in this case, you will have to leave the bus at NB 4th after Stewart. The museum is about a three-minute walk away.

A great alternative is the Las Vegas Sightseeing Bus. It has comfortable seats and double-deckers - perfect for enjoying the skyline. It hits all the landmarks of Sin City, from the Arts District to the Bellagio, including, of course, The Mob. A day pass usually costs between €40 and €50. Two or three-day passes are also available.

Getting to The Mob by car

Many tourists hire a car to get around the city freely or to explore the surrounding desert. If this is your case, just enter the museum's address into your navigation system: 300 Stewart Avenue. A good parking option is the nearby Main Street Station Casino Parking.

The first 30 minutes are free, after which an hourly rate will apply. You can find all daily, weekly and monthly rates on the official website.

Without a doubt, the added value of the cultural institution is its interactive experiences. You'll find them on the first floor, just after the entrance. Here are the options to choose from:

  • Crime Lab, for those who have always dreamed of experiencing a C.S.I. style investigation. You can have DNA and fingerprint analysis every day from 10:00 to 21:00. Each session lasts half an hour and participants must be at least 11 years old.
  • Firearm Training Simulator, a firearms training simulator that emphasises the training of police officers. It is open from 12:00 to 19:00 and there is a session every 15 minutes. Participants must be at least 13 years old and children aged 13-16 must be accompanied by an adult. For more activities of this kind, I recommend you read the post about the best shooting range experiences in Las Vegas.
  • Distillery tour with whiskey tasting, the best way to delve into the knowledge of spirit preparation and the wiles of organised crime. The bar is also a landmark: it recreates the atmosphere of the 1920s and its drinks are a nod to the Prohibition era.

The museum is open all week from 9:00 to 21:00. Generally there are no closing days, although on certain dates the opening hours may be reduced.

For example, if you visit Las Vegas on Christmas or other holidays, you will only be able to visit from 10:00 to 18:00.

In the basement of the building is The Speakeasy, a bar that winks back to the days of Prohibition and speakeasies. Entry is included in the ticket price - drinks are separate - but you'll have to recite the password. Open Monday to Wednesday from 12:00 to 22:00 and Thursday to Sunday from 12:00 to 24:00.

Want to go home with an original souvenir? Then you should definitely stop at the tiedan of the museum. Its offer goes far beyond the simple T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats that you can find in other tourist shops. The list below lists the most curious souvenirs:

  • Newspaper reprints.
  • Choose from three headlines recalling historic events and characters: the end of Prohibition, Bonnie & Clyde and the notorious gangster John Dillinger
  • Las Vegas sign ornament, a hand-painted glass globe depicting a cityscape
.- The ideal choice if you visit Las Vegas at Christmas and want to decorate the tree with something original
  • The Crime Boss colouring book, a colouring book for adults
.- Relax by colouring in the vignettes of America's most famous criminals
  • Corn whiskey distilled in the basement of the museum. You can choose from three sizes - 50, 375 and 750 ml - and as many varieties: plain, cinnamon or ginger flavoured
  • Shot Glasses, six shot glasses with mug shots of America's most famous criminals: Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Siegel, Pretty Boy Floyd, John Dillinger and Machine Gun Kelly

The shop is located near the entrance and is very popular with visitors. The souvenirs are not limited to classic outlaws such as Al Capone, but cover more recent Mafia families.

Is it advisable to go to The Mob Museum with children?

The museum makes no apology for organised crime and the most gruesome scenes - for example, the St. Valentine's Day massacre - can be skipped. So it's up to you and your children's sensibilities. If you are not convinced and are looking for an alternative destination, I recommend reading the post on 10 things to do in Las Vegas with kids.
