If you're planning a trip to Vigo, I have good news, this city has its own airport! Vigo Airport, also known as Peinador Airport, is located about 12.8 kilometres from the centre of Vigo. This translates into a 13-minute drive if there are no obstacles or traffic on the road.

To get from the airport you can choose different options that take you to the city centre. Getting there is the ideal way to enjoy the best things to see and do in Vigo from the very first day.

1. A private transfer, comfort and exclusivity

Hiring a transfer service from the airport to the centre of Vigo or vice versa is the best option. Although it's something you should book in advance, it allows you to get rid of stress and ease your worries. You only need to provide your arrival or departure time for the driver to be on time at the address you provide.

One of the companies that offer private transfer services to or from Vigo airport is Taxi. This company is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In addition, their drivers are professional, responsible and punctual.

With a private transfer you can enjoy a VIP service. The driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall or at the point you indicate with a sign with your name written on it. All you have to do is approach and show your receipt to confirm that it is you.

The driver will help you store your luggage in the car. It's a good idea to let the company know how much luggage you'll be carrying and if you'll be accompanied. If you are travelling to Vigo with children, this is your best option as everyone will travel comfortably and the driver can include a special seat for them. You can provide any other details so that the driver and the company can offer you a better service.

2. A bus, a longer but cheaper trip

There are no train stations near Vigo Airport. In fact, the only stations in Vigo are very close to the centre and these are Vigo-Urzáiz and Vigo-Guixar. Therefore, you must take a bus to travel from the airport to the city centre.

The only bus line that can take you from the airport to the city and vice versa is the Vitrasa line L9A. I must warn you that it is not the most comfortable service, as you won't find an ideal space to store your luggage. It is also a long journey with many stops.

Please note that the regular fare for Vitrasa buses is approximately €1.5. Children under 4 years old travel for free and university students have a special rate.

When you are at the bus stop you should take the bus XG624 of the line I mentioned before. From there you will travel about 14 stations for approximately 48 minutes. The stop where you should get off to get to the centre of Vigo is Colon. To give you a reference, from this stop you can get to the MARCO Museum of Contemporary Art in two minutes on foot. In fact, from there you could start a walking tour of the city.

  • Price: approximately 1.5 €.
  • Advantages of using this method: with this method you don't have to pay too much in transfer so I recommend it if you are travelling on a budget and with little luggage.

  • How to book this transport: You can't book a bus, so to enjoy the service you must go to the bus stop and wait for it to arrive. To board you must pay for your ticket. The driver will tell you the amount, but I recommend that you bring just the right amount.
  • Recommended if... you are travelling light, on a budget and without small children.

3. A taxi, a last minute but safe option

Taxis are an option you can always use. However, it can be expensive, especially if you need the service at night or on busy dates. Just outside Vigo airport you will find several taxi lines that can help you. One of them is Taxi Aeropuerto.

I recommend that you always check that the taxi driver belongs to a company. If this company works next to the airport, it will be much better. This way you can make a claim if something is lost. It will also be safer for you as you will avoid possible scams.

To make you feel more confident you can take a moment to check the reviews that the company has on the internet. This way you can be a little more confident about what kind of service you will receive. You can also ask for a car specific to the amount of luggage you are carrying and the number of people travelling with you.

Interesting details

  • Journeytime: around 15 minutes.
  • Price: around €20 or more, depending on the time of day and time of year you travel.
  • Advantages of using this method: when you arrive at the airport you will see the different taxis on the line ready to take you wherever you need to go. You don't need to look anywhere else.
  • Disadvantages of using this method: If you are travelling on a busy day it can be difficult to get a taxi available to you unless you book.
  • How to book this transport: If you prefer to be more confident that there will be a taxi waiting for you, it is best to do some research on taxi lines and call the company in advance to confirm if they offer this service. However, they usually cannot be booked.
  • Recommended if... you couldn't hire a private service in time and you want safe transport.

4. An Uber, an option that will always get you out of trouble

Other options that you can always have at hand are mobile apps like Uber. Using the Uber app is very easy. It's also very useful if you didn't plan a ride in advance. However, drivers are not always available at all times and fares can be very high, especially if you are travelling at night or on holidays.

On the other hand, this service does not guarantee good customer service. Few drivers take the time to help you store your luggage. Although you can look at reviews and comments left by previous customers, if you are in a hurry you will not have time to consider these factors.

On the Uber app you have the option to choose the type of car you need for the amount of luggage you are carrying. You can also book a ride in advance to be on the safe side. However, this booking is not entirely secure as sometimes drivers can cancel at the last minute. In such cases the company does not take care of the situation, so you will have to request another taxi.

Interesting details

  • Journeytime: about 15 minutes.
  • Price: around €30 or more, depending on the time of day and time of year.
  • Advantages of using this method: you can choose the type of car you prefer to store your luggage in.
  • Disadvantages of using this method: You cannot guarantee that the driver will provide good customer service. Also, some drivers may cancel at the last minute.
  • How to book this transport: You need to download the app on your mobile phone. In this type of app you have the option to book a taxi at a specific time.
  • Recommended if... you are familiar with this type of app, you are travelling with few suitcases and few people.

5. A rented car, an option that will help you get around Vigo

When you travel to Vigo you can get around by public transport, but not all the places you can see have a stop nearby. That's why another recommendation is to rent a car when you arrive at the airport. One of the companies that offer this service is AVIS, and like them, many have various packages for car rental by the day.

You can choose the car you prefer and that adapts to the number of people travelling with you. You can also choose the number of days you will use it. I recommend planning your itinerary for two or more days in Vigo very well. For example, the centre of Vigo can be explored on foot, but if you want to explore the estuary, it's better to take a rented car.

Taking into account your plans, you can travel in this vehicle during your entire stay in Vigo. The price will depend on how many days you use the car. Normally the daily rate is around 30 € per day, but it can also vary depending on the season and the type of car you decide to rent.

Interesting details

  • Journey time: about 15 minutes.
  • Price: approximately €30 per day.
  • Advantages of using this method: you can drive this car throughout your stay in Vigo and it will facilitate your transfer at all times.
  • Disadvantages of using this method: it is much more expensive than the other methods.
  • How to book this transport: you can rent a car from the website of the company of your choice.
