One of the main mistakes made by travellers visiting Girona for the first time is to enjoy the city alone and forget about the stunning destinations to be found in the rest of the region.

While there is plenty to see and do in Girona city, it's important to remember that this region of Spain has stunning scenery, ancient medieval villages and a coastline that should not be missed under any circumstances.

My advice? If you go to the city extend your stay by 1 or 2 days and spend the time exploring a little further afield. The best way is on an organised tour where you don't have to worry about any planning details. Here are some of the most interesting alternatives.

1. Explore Costa Brava and the Medieval Villages from Girona

Although certain details of the experience may change depending on the tour you take, many of these activities in Girona include in their itinerary the municipality of Calella, the small coastal town of Llafranc and of course the village of Begur

Visiting these destinations is often interspersed with visits to the ancient Romanesque villages of Pals and Peratallada, to experience excellently preserved medieval villages.
