As one of the most popular attractions in the city, it is very common to see large crowds of visitors. One of the best times to visit the Alcazar without the crowds is in November and December. The Alcazar is located in the historic centre of the city of Cordoba, facing the Guadalquivir River and just a few metres from the imposing Roman Bridge. There are many attractions in this area, so it will not be difficult to get here, wherever you are staying. Buses 3, 4 and 5 pass close to the Real Alcázar.

Cordoba is one of those cities that is best explored on foot, especially because this way you will be able to discover places of great beauty that may not appear in the tourist guides. Its hidden courtyards, its tablaos flamencos, the traces of its Arabic past, everything in this city is to be enjoyed with all five senses. Very close to the Alcázar is the Jewish quarter of Cordoba, another must-see, so I recommend you to walk around the city, you won't regret it.

The whole complex itself is impressive, but what you can't miss are the towers. The most important is the Torre de los Leones, from where you can enjoy the majestic panoramic views, and then go down and walk along the ancient walls to the Torre del Homenaje (Homage Tower). Inside the Alcazar you will find a large number of historical objects of great beauty, but the most outstanding place is the Hall of Mosaics, where you can see a large number of mosaics of Roman origin, preserved in perfect condition.

The perfect blend of nature, architecture and multicultural history make this place one of the most important and beautiful places to see in Cordoba.

Tips for visiting the Alcazar of the Christian Monarchs in Cordoba

  • When visiting the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos in Cordoba, bear in mind that although the interior is relatively small, its gardens, fountains, pools and towers are not, so I recommend you wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear. In the case of the towers, for example, they are reached by ancient stone stairs, which have high steps. The climb is not impossible, but with uncomfortable shoes it can be tiring.
  • My recommendation is to always buy your tickets in advance online, as this will save you delays and allow you to enter the Alcazar at the allotted time, without having to queue at the entrance.
  • It doesn't make much of a difference, only about 10 euros more, and it's totally worth it, as you'll be able to hear all the stories that the Alcazar treasures from your expert guide.
