Barça is a football team known the world over, and the passion for its colours transcends all borders. So much so that visiting the Camp Nou, the Barcelona Football Club's stadium, is one of the most popular experiences.

However, due to the works that are currently being carried out, you can't visit the pitch but you can visit the museum and feel as if you were on the pitch itself thanks to a virtual reality experience. Read on to find out more.

If during your visit to Barcelona Barça is not playing at home (or you simply can't or don't want to go to the match), there is the possibility to visit the stadium outside match days and times:

The first thing you should know if you want to see the Camp Nou Spotify is that the stadium is currently under construction, so the inside of the stadium is temporarily closed to visitors. However, with tickets for the FC Barcelona Museum with immersive experience you can sign up for the tour in a virtual experience that you can enjoy as if you were standing on the pitch itself.

At the same time, you will be among the first to see the architectural design planned for the new Espai Barça, the future home of the FC Barcelona team. The ambitious project will be operational in 2026.

You will also be able to visit the new Barça Museum, whose exhibition is made up of interactive elements that tell the history of the club and take you on a journey through its best moments. You will also see objects donated by prominent players of the team, football-themed works of art by artists such as Dalí, Miró, Tàpies and Subirachs, and an exclusive area dedicated to Messi.

Recommended: If you are on a tight budget or simply prefer to visit the Camp Nou at your own pace.

If you want to make your visit special, a guided tour of Camp Nou with access to the Museum and a bus tour of Barcelona is the perfect way to get the feel of the pitch as if you were experiencing a match day.

This tour picks you up by bus in the centre of Barcelona and takes you around much of the city (there are several routes available) and of course to Camp Nou. There you will take an interactive tour where you will see all the places in the stadium in a virtual way: the changing rooms, the pitch, the press room, the chapel and the corridors of the stadium, the box and its bar. You can also visit the complete exhibition of the FC Barcelona Museum.

With more than 30 stops, this tourist bus allows you to get to know the city and its main attractions with a 24 or 48-hour pass. You'll also get the great souvenir of being part of the Spotify Camp Nou Experiencie.

However, the duration of the tour is express and is reduced to 1 hour and 30 minutes, visiting the same areas of the stadium. You will also have the chance to continue exploring the Camp Nou at your leisure at the end of the experience.

Recommended: If you have little time in Barcelona or you don't like large crowds of tourists when taking a tour.

Due to the **stadium'**s refurbishment, it is currently not possible to visit the inside of the stadium and everything I will tell you below will be enjoyed in a virtual way thanks to the interactive tour experience:

The stadium

Not only will you see the pitch and the stands, you will also see the bench where the FC Barcelona players sit, the changing rooms where you can imagine the coach motivating the players with a speech a minute before they go out onto the pitch, and the tunnel through which they go out on match day to meet the roar of thousands of fans.

Then you can visit the press room, the Mixed Zone, where the players comment on the key play after the match, and the room from where the commentators broadcast the match.

The FC Barcelona Museum

The museum focuses on exploring the club's history and sporting achievements. Perhaps most interesting is the sight of FC Barcelona's Champions League trophies, glistening in their display cases, and you might be delighted to know that you can have your photo taken holding a Champions League trophy.

Another highlight of the museum is the section dedicated to Lionel Messi, considered one of the greatest football players of all time, where you can watch replays of his best goals and a summary of his achievements throughout his football career. The museum also houses works by Catalan artists related to football and often has temporary exhibitions related to football that are worth seeing.

Virtual Reality Experience at Camp Nou

You can take a tour of the Camp Nou with virtual reality goggles, and although the experience only lasts a few minutes, it transports you straight into a match day. You'll see the players in action, the stands packed with fans and feel the stadium magically come to life.

It's included in most tours but if you decide to visit the Camp Nou on your own, you can experience it by ordering the glasses at the ticket office. It costs 6 Euros, which is a very good price for an extra that will definitely add something special to your visit.

Alex's Traveller Tip

Avoid green clothes! When you have your photo taken on the pitch, the colour of your clothes will blend in with the green of the grass, spoiling a memory that you'll probably want to keep for the rest of your life.

Organise your visit to the Camp Nou

More than a club

Here are a few tips to help you organise your visit, especially if you're not going on a tour of the stadium and are going to visit it on your own:

How to get to Camp Nou

The easiest way to get to the stadium is by metro, getting off at any of three stops: Les Corts (L3), Badal (L5), or Collblanc (L9). Barcelona's metro layout is quite simple, so I recommend you find which of these three lines is closest to your accommodation and go directly to Camp Nou.

To get around Barcelona by metro, the best way is to buy a T-Casual card, a 10-trip pass that you can use on all methods of public transport. You can also buy single tickets, but if you're going to travel on public transport in Barcelona, the 10-trip pass is much more worthwhile.

If you prefer to go to Camp Nou by bus, any of these buses will drop you off at the door or fairly close by: 50, 54, 57, 70, 75, D20, H8, H10 and V3. The downside of going by bus is that traffic in Barcelona tends to be quite congested so it will take a little longer, something to bear in mind when planning your visit.

Opening days and times

The Camp Nou is something special, as there are a number of days a year when it is closed for matches. The official opening times are as follows:

  • From 2 April to 7 October: Monday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.
  • From 8 October to 1 April: Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:30, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 14:30.

Match days

There are no tours on League or Spanish Cup match days. The FC Barcelona Museum opens up to 3 hours before kick-off and reopens 90 minutes before kick-off, until the start of the match.

On Champions League match days there are no tours and only the first floor of the FC Barcelona Museum can be visited until 15:00. The day before the matches the tour route is modified and you can access all areas of the Camp Nou and the Museum except the first floor of the Museum.

FC Barcelona can change the timetable or admission conditions at any time and for any reason, so if one day you are unlucky enough to have a special training session or any other reason, you may not be able to do the tour or access the museum. Also, from 1 July to 31 August, at Easter or Christmas there are special opening times which you should check on the official Camp Nou website as they vary each year.

Best time to visit the Camp Nou

If you want to visit the Camp Nou avoiding the crowds of tourists, I recommend you to go as early as possible. At 10:00 in the morning there are still not too many visitors and you can walk around the stadium at your leisure and then you will have the whole day to explore Barcelona.

However, keep in mind that the high season for visitors is between April and October, so if you are in Barcelona during this part of the year you are bound to find groups of tourists at the Camp Nou.

How long does it take to visit Camp Nou and the FC Barcelona Museum?

It depends entirely on your passion for football, but most visitors spend between 1 hour 30 minutes and up to 3 hours on the Camp Nou experience, which includes visiting the stadium and touring the Barça museum.

Latest tips

Camp Nou Museum| ©visitcampnou
  • As you know, it is best to arrive as early as possible at the Camp Nou to avoid the crowds. The busiest time to visit is just after lunch, around 14:30 in the afternoon.
  • I recommend you not to wear green clothes, as they will blend in with the grass of the football pitch and the photo will not look very nice. And since you're only going to get one chance, you'd better get it right!
  • Wear comfortable shoes. You'll be doing a lot of walking throughout your visit and you'll probably be exploring Barcelona afterwards, so trainers will be your best option.
  • If it's raining, take a mackintosh, otherwise you'll get wet when you go out into the countryside.
  • Remember that there is an official club shop at the stadium, where you can buy your favourite player's shirt and all kinds of merchandise. If you forget something or don't want to carry bags, there is an FC Barcelona shop at the airport Duty Free.
