Step by Step

By joining this guided tour of Seoul's Deoksugung Palace, you will explore an architectural gem of the city, in the morning or by moonlight, on a tour lasting approximately two hours.

You will learn about the fascinating history of the palace, which was built in 1593 during the reign of King Seonjo, the 14th monarch of the Joseon Dynasty. It was used as a temporary residence for the royal family during the era when Korea's capital was under constant siege from Japanese invasions.

The tour starts at the main entrance, where you will be greeted by your tour guide. This expert in Korean culture will show you the most amazing corners of the site.

Among the different historical areas that make up the architectural complex, you will visit:

  • Junghwajeon: this is the main hall of the palace, built in 1902. In its heyday, it was used for important ceremonies and audiences with the king.
  • Seokjojeon: in Western architectural style, it was built for King Gojong and his wife, Queen Sunjeong, as their private residence.
  • Seokeodang: its curved roofs and brick and stone walls are a sight to behold. As you walk through it, you will hear its impressive history.
  • Hamnyeongjeon: one of the oldest buildings in the palace, built in 1618. You will be amazed by its impressive carved arches and columns.
  • Jungkwanhun: this is where the palace kitchen was located. Are you curious to know what the dishes they served were like? You'll find out as soon as you enter.

You will see the illuminated gardens, fountains and royal guards in their traditional uniforms , while learning about the history of the Joseon dynasty and its importance.
