Step by Step
Experience a day in the movies with the guided tour to Hobbiton and Waitomo Caves from Auckland to the rolling hills of the vast plains of Matamata, known as J.R.R. Tolkien's Shire.
A local guide will accompany you on the tour to discover the secrets and stories behind the creation of Middle-earth and to learn about the areas and settings of world famous films such as:
- Lord of the Rings: tour the incredible sets of the different film sagas.
- Hobbiton: from Hobbit Holes to the Mill and the Green Dragon Inn, you will have the opportunity to enjoy the stellar views of the Kaimai Ranges and enjoy a special drink prepared for Baggins in the famous pub.
The adventure continues with a visit to the famous Waitomo Glow Worm Caves, where thousands of tiny worms light up the caves with their natural phosphorescent glow. Glide through the caves in a boat and marvel at the mesmerising light show and then explore Cathedral Cove, known for its impressive acoustics, on foot.
On the way back to Auckland, you will enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery in the North Island, following the majestic Waikato River, New Zealand's longest river, and passing the Maori king's house at Ngaruawahia and Taupiri, site of a sacred Maori burial ground.
The full day tour involves a small group of about 14 people to ensure a closer and more personalised experience. The activity includes a delicious kiwi-style lunch and transfers to and from your hotel in Auckland.
