Step by Step

Step into the controversial world of the world's oldest profession with your ticket to the Red Light Secrets Museum in Amsterdam . Located in the Red Light District, known by locals as De Wallen, this district built in 1385 gained much notoriety over the years for its many brothels. The Red Light Secrets Museum opened its doors in 2014 as a small revolution to lift the veil on the taboo of prostitution, promising to tell its story.

Housed in a 17th century house that was once used as a brothel, you'll step inside this unique museum and learn about the history of Amsterdam' s Red Light District. From the 16th century to the legalisation of prostitution in 2000.

You will immerse yourself in the life of the sex workers and their innermost secrets. You will gain insight into the profession by sitting in a red-lit window, where prostitutes used to advertise their services. During your visit you will see a typical working room, and learn the most hidden secrets of the profession. Through personal audio stories you will learn the story of a Russian woman called Inga, who saw herself as a sex therapist and worked in Amsterdam for 15 years.

The purpose of this museum is to educate people about sex work in Amsterdam, including the measures that have been taken to prevent human trafficking. Filled with stories from sex workers about their lives in the industry, the museum aims to show that these women should be treated with dignity and respect.

Learning the history was an eye-opening experience. It made me realise that working sets happen. It's a tough business. However, the museum was great
