To enjoy this show all you have to do is head to the Vidanta Riviera Resort. Beyond its wonderful beaches, maritime activities and tours from Playa del Carmen, being able to see the Cirque du Soleil will make your holiday unforgettable.

How much do tickets to Joyá by Cirque du Soleil cost?

Depending on the type of ticket you buy, the price can range from €100 to €250. Obviously, this difference is related to the extras included in the ticket.

The most expensive option, for example, offers a 3-course dinner, champagne, priority access to the venue, VIP services and, of course, the seats with the best visibility. On the other hand, the cheapest ticket is the one that only offers the show, with no other services or luxuries.

What types of tickets are there

There are four types of tickets for the Joyá show that you can buy to enjoy this show. Each of them has its own specifications, and all of them lead to a magical adventure.

Firstly, there is the VIP package which includes great seats with the best visibility, welcome cocktail and champagne during the event.

Premium tickets are another option. In this case, they include champagne, wine and soft drinks, plus gourmet snacks.

The next ticket you will find is the Dinner, Show and Champagne ticket, which includes an exquisite dinner and an extra hour of show.

The cheapest ticket includes only the show, but it's still an excellent option so you won't miss out on one of the best experiences of your life... To give you a better comparison, I leave you this table with the different types of tickets.

Are tickets to the Joyá show included in any of the city's tourist passes?

Unfortunately no. The tickets for this show are not included in the Cancun All-Inclusive Pass, which is the one that works for the Riviera Maya.

This card, however, does offer good discounts for other attractions in the area. So, for example, if you want to visit the Xcaret Park or even if you want to make an excursion to Chichen Itza from Playa del Carmen, this pass can be quite useful.

How do I buy tickets for Cirque du Soleil's Joya show, can I buy them at the box office?

Although there is the option of buying tickets at the theatre box office, I really don't recommend it at all. Regardless of the dates, there is almost a 100% chance that there won't be any left.

Another possibility is to try to buy them once you are in Playa del Carmen, as there are companies authorised to sell them. However, if you are not far enough in advance, it is also likely that you won't find any seats.

By far the best way is to buy them online, either from the official Cirque du Soleil website or from a company specialised in selling tickets for events.

Just as if you want to book an excursion to the Tulum ruins from Playa del Carmen, my recommendation is to get your tickets for Joyá well in advance. This is even more important in high season: April, July and August, plus Christmas and Easter, but for the Joya show it seems to be all year round.

Are there special tickets for children, is it a show they might like?

The Joyá show is perfect for children over the age of five, but tickets are exactly the same as for adults.

In principle, this is a show that children can enjoy, especially the acrobatics, the colours and the light effects. However, bear in mind that the duration is considerable (80 minutes) and that the music is quite loud, so it depends a lot on the tastes of each child.

In case you are going with children and are hesitating whether to buy a ticket with dinner, you don't have to worry. The dishes are presented in such attractive and fun ways that the little ones will be immediately attracted to them and will want to try them right away.

How to get to Cirque du Soleil?

The Cirque du Soleil Theatre is located within the Vidanta Riviera Maya Resort, only about 20 minutes from Playa del Carmen.

To get there just follow the Cancun-Tulum highway and follow the signs along the way. You can even stay in one of the hotels in the area and get even closer to Joyá.

If you need transportation, Circo del Sol has a shuttle bus service that leaves from Playacar Center, in front of the Royal Wideway Hotel. To take this option, you just have to include it when you buy your ticket online and that's it.

I recommend you do so, as it is not only the cheapest and safest way to get to the theatre, but it also ensures that you won't be late for the show and that you won't miss anything at all.

As for the price of this service, it costs around 20 euros per person, which you must add when you buy your ticket. All options may include a transfer on the Cirque du Soleil bus.

What are the show hours and what else does the show have to offer?

The show is presented in two schedules from Tuesday to Saturday: the one that starts at 18:00 and the one that starts at 21:30. I recommend you to be on time, (hence it is better to take the circus bus), because once the magic starts you will be able to get in, but you will have to wait for a chance not to interrupt the show and it is not that easy.

In the vicinity of the theatre, inside the resort, you will find a nice souvenir shop that is almost an obligatory stop for you to bring home one of those pieces that will make you always remember the experience.

In addition to this, there is a bar and a restaurant, the Nektar, with a very pleasant atmosphere and exquisite cuisine.

It's an ideal option for dinner before the show, if you haven't included it in your ticket, or for a drink to end a perfect evening.

If your tickets include dinner, your experience will begin with an explosion of unforgettable flavours including creative recipes related to the show's theme. A good example is the dessert tasting, which arrives at the table in a cute book-shaped box.

Once dinner is over, the show begins. Everything is centred on Mexican culture, from a perspective that gives a very different touch to the traditional folklore of this country. With lots of colour, lights and music, the characters parade around the stage, swaying up to the first tables, where the VIP seats are located.

Throughout the show, if your ticket includes it, you will be offered exclusive Cirque du Soleil drinks. These flavours added to the visual and auditory experience make for a real explosion for your senses.

Interesting details about the Cirque du Soleil's Joya show

  • What the show is about: Joyá is about an alchemist and his teenage granddaughter who embark on an adventure in search of the meaning of life. To find it, they delve into the landscapes of a jungle full of magic, combining music, performing arts and culinary wonders, in a single experience.
  • Drinks and menu: When it comes to drinks and menu selection, you're going to find that there are a variety of options so you can tailor your experience to your preferences. The same goes for the kids - everyone is sure to love it!
  • Anticipation on arrival: Ideally, you should be at the Cirque du Soleil theatre about 30 minutes before the show starts. Especially if you have bought tickets that include dinner, as this offers a small show just before the start of the great adventure.
  • Price for groups: If you are travelling with a group of more than 12 people, don't hesitate to ask for a special price through the mail and phone numbers, or by filling in the form for corporate event quotations that you will find on the official website.
  • Cameras: Finally, you should know that professional cameras are not allowed. In fact, you are only allowed to take a few photographs during the show and, if you want to take a video, it must not be longer than 30 seconds. And never with flash, or you might disturb the artists and the rest of the audience.

A perfect day in the Riviera Maya with a beach and a show to top it all off!

If you have any doubts about what to do before heading to see the Cirque du Soleil show, my recommendation is to start the day with one of the best adventure and snorkelling tours from Playa del Carmen.

Spend the day enjoying 6 hours swimming among the exotic tropical fish, take in the scenery of the seabed and coral reefs and get your adrenaline pumping with zip lines, abseiling and a trip to an underground river.

Then return to the hotel for a quick shower and get ready for a splendid dinner where you will travel with Joyá to a hidden jungle inside another universe.
