Cancun is one of the most complete places in America to spend your holidays. Here you'll find everything from pre-Columbian history to incredible golf courses and lush tropical rainforests. The list of things to see and do in Cancun is almost endless.

One of Cancun's favourite activities for travellers is touring the rainforest in off-road vehicles, but the experience doesn't stop there. The off-road tours available in Cancun include some incredible extras, such as visits to cenotes, zip-lines and snorkelling.

This type of tour takes place during a visit to the Extreme Adventure Eco Park in Cancun, a place where adventure is guaranteed.

In this type of excursion, you will have the opportunity to do three combined experiences: off-road, zip-lining and a relaxing swim in a cenote.

This adventure will take you over land, air and water so you can enjoy all the beauty that Extreme Adventure Eco Park has to offer.

This great experience usually starts with a tour through the depths of the Mayan jungle in a 4x4 vehicle for about 50 minutes.

Then you'll continue into the jungle, but Tarzan style, through the trees, via an interactive zip line course. If you are afraid of heights, it goes without saying that it would be best to avoid this part, but don't worry, because with the off-road experience and the swim in the cenote, it's worth it.

Finally, you will be taken to one of the thousands of cenotes in Cancun so you can relax and swim. The cenotes of Cancun are idyllic places where you can swim and observe the beautiful nature of the region at its best.

These excursions are usually done in small groups of around 14 people, so it is a very personalised experience. In addition to this, you will usually be picked up at your hotel or some other nearby meeting point and taken back to that place after the tour is over, in comfortable and air-conditioned vehicles.

One thing to consider when choosing a tour is whether or not entrance fees are included.

In this category of tours at the Extreme Adventure Eco Park, entrance fees to the park are included, as well as access to the zip line circuit and the trip to the cenote.

Please note that food and beverages are not included. Another important aspect to consider is that these activities are not suitable for children under 4 years old. Remember that you must be over 18 years old to drive the 4x4 vehicle.

Tours in off-road vehicles can be booked online. With this system you have the great advantage of securing the date you want. You can also pay with credit and debit cards.

Another advantage is that you know what you are signing up for as the details are all there for you to see and you have the testimonials of previous users to compare the different options available.

While you are looking for your excursion, I recommend that you also look at other categories of activities to do in Cancun, there are many incredible experiences to enjoy during your trip.

What are the advantages of taking a guided off-road tour instead of doing it on my own?

Guided tours in off-road vehicles, besides offering you the jungle experience, also include other activities such as zip-lining, snorkelling, hiking and scuba diving.

If you want to do all this on your own, the first difficulty you will encounter is safety. On the other hand, if you opt for a company with experience in organising this type of activities, you will have all the safety measures in place, thus avoiding unnecessary risks.

Another important advantage of guided tours is that they will take you to places that if you don't know the region you would hardly find on your own. The experience of the local guides is invaluable because beyond taking you to the different sites, they tell you the stories and interesting facts about each place.

The local guides will also be able to recommend other activities, for example, if you like the beach, they can give you advice on the best excursions to Isla Mujeres or if you prefer sailing they can suggest the best cruises in Cancun.

You also have the advantage of saving money, because if you hire a guided tour you will have the entrance fees and equipment rental included in the price. If you decide to do it on your own, you will have to pay for everything separately and the price will probably be much higher.

Tips for an off-road vehicle tour in Cancun

Please note that most of the off-road tours in Cancun also include other activities, so I will give you tips for all of them.

The weather in Cancun is tropical and quite humid depending on the time of the year, so make sure you wear comfortable clothes to be able to do this kind of activities in total comfort.

  • The type of footwear you should choose should be closed-toed, forget sandals for jungle trekking. The best shoes are closed-toed, non-slip and waterproof.
  • Wear a hat and if you are wearing sunglasses, make sure they have a good grip because they can easily fly off during the activities you are going to do.
  • Remember to wear sunscreen and reapply it regularly. You will be sweating a lot, largely due to the humidity of the rainforest and this will cause the sunscreen to come off, which is why you should remember to reapply it several times throughout the day.
  • As you will be swimming in the cenotes, remember to bring your swimming costume.
  • Although there are some tours that include lunch, it is advisable to bring some snacks and water, lots of water. - Bring insect repellent.
