Step by Step

Discover one of Tokyo 's most important neighbourhoods on this guided tour of the old town in Yanaka. The tour is on foot and you will be supported by a local guide who will show you the best of the neighbourhood. As well as seeing the Nezu shrine you can sample some local food and enjoy Japanese handicrafts in a themed cafe. The tour lasts approximately 3 and a half hours, during which time you will get to know the old town of Tokyo in depth.

You will have the opportunity to visit Nezu Temple, a Buddhist shrine built in the 17th century. You will be able to lose yourself in its gardens and the adjacent buildings. Your guide will explain the meaning of each room and the importance of this Buddhist shrine.

In Yanaka, you will find a multitude of traditional shops and typical Japanese buildings. You will get to know the Japanese architecture of the 50's and the daily life of the residents as you walk around. It is a neighbourhood with many bars and restaurants, so take the opportunity to savour the rich and varied local cuisine.

You will also visit a themed cafe where you can paint a lucky Japanese cat doll. This will be a good time to sample the variety of Japanese teas and discover your skills with oriental crafts.

You will then pass through a large shopping street lined with craft shops and traditional restaurants. Here you can sample some Japanese sweets and discover unique products handmade by local artists.
