The most comfortable and quickest option, which takes you from door to door to your hotel, is to hire a private transfer.

If you don't want to make things complicated and you want to move between Florence airport and the city centre in the most comfortable, private and quickest way, the best option is to hire a private transfer from the airport to your hotel in Florence.

How the private transfer service works

When you make your booking, you will have to provide your arrival flight details so that the company can organise your pick-up in the easiest way possible. As soon as you land and pick up your bags from the luggage belt, your driver will be waiting for you at the airport (for you and your group).

As this is a totally personalised and private service, you will not have to share the journey with other travellers and the way will be as quick as possible: from the airport to your hotel, without interruptions.

Interesting details

  • Journeytime: the journey time between Florence and the airport is between 15 and 60 minutes, depending on traffic.
  • Terminal pick-up: the chauffeur will wait for you at the airport up to 45 minutes after your flight has landed.
  • Vehicle capacity: 6 passengers
  • Luggage allowance: 1 large suitcase per passenger and 1 handbag or backpack (if you are carrying bulky luggage, please check with the company at the time of booking).
  • Customer service: both Hellotickets and the transfer company are available to answer any questions you may have.
  • Special needs: these vehicles are not adapted for wheelchair users but are accessible for pushchairs.

If you opt for the most comfortable option on your arrival in the city, you will probably also be interested in hiring this transfer back to Florence airport when your trip is over and you have to return to the airport.

As for how it works, it is exactly the same as the arrival transfer, so you can check all the details in the previous paragraph. The only difference is that the pick-up will take place at your hotel, for which you will have to provide the address of your accommodation and the time you want to be picked up.

Other options: tram, bus and taxi

Tramway

The tramway is the cheapest way to get to and from Florence airport (only 1,5€ per person each way). The journey time is approximately half an hour and trains depart from T2. The only drawback is that you will have to carry your luggage and on arrival in the centre of Florence you will have to change trains to get to your hotel.

As for the timetable, the tram runs almost all day long: from 5.05am to midnight and on Saturdays and Sundays until 1.32am.

Shuttle bus

Another option which is equally quick, but not as convenient as the tramway as it is more expensive (6€ each way, 10€ if you buy a return trip) and does not bring any additional benefits, is to take a shuttle bus between Florence airport and the city centre. Buses leave from the airport and drop you off in the central Piazza Stazione, next to the Santa Maria Novella train station.

Buses run every day, including Sundays and public holidays, and every 30 minutes. They operate between 5.30am and 8.30pm and every 60 minutes between 5.30am and 8.30pm.

They belong to BusItalia's Vola in bus company, and you can read more information about bus tickets on their website, although you can buy them directly on board the bus, although you can only buy a single ticket.

Taxi

Florence airport, of course, has a taxi rank at the arrivals terminal. The service has a fixed fare, plus an additional €1 for each piece of luggage carried as an extra charge. Bear in mind that not all taxi drivers speak English or Spanish, so be prepared with the address of your destination to make communication easier.
