Step by Step

Discover one of the wonders of the Renaissance with these tickets to the Brunelleschi Cathedral and Dome. Pre-book your priority access to the marvellous dome with these passes, valid for three days, to see the interior and get spectacular views of Florence. You will also be able to enter the Baptistery, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Opera del Duomo Museum and the Church of Santa Reparata as part of this comprehensive experience.

The Florence Cathedral is dedicated to Santa Maria del Fiore and is a masterpiece of Italian Gothic architecture. The church was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio (1245-1302), who considerably enlarged the existing religious structure. Completed around 1367, the cathedral was completely covered in coloured marble, as was the Baptistery before it, except for the façade, which remained unfinished and was not completed until the 19th century.

The interior of the cathedral contains some very important works of art. On the one hand there are the first two detached frescoes depicting the Condottiero Giovanni Acuto and Niccolò da Tolentino, painted respectively by Paolo Uccello in 1436 and by Andrea del Castagno in 1456. Paolo Uccello also frescoed the clock on the interior wall, showing four vigorous heads of saints.

In addition to its spectacular interior, you can climb 463 steps to reach Brunelleschi's dome. It became the largest in the world after the fall of the Roman Empire and is still considered to be the largest masonry dome in the world. Both constructions were declared World Heritage Sites by Unesco in the 1980s.

Other monuments that you can visit with these tickets are:

  • Giotto's Bell Tower: the bell tower is an excellent example of 14th century Florentine Gothic architecture. There are 414 steps to climb but the best thing about it is the panoramic views of Florence.
  • The Museo dell'Opera del Duomo: a total of 6,000 square metres divided into 28 rooms on three floors. It is a museum within a museum, a concentration of faith, art and history like no other.
  • The church of Santa Reparata: one of the first places of worship for Christians in Florence and whose crypt is still preserved, as the cathedral of Florence was built on the base of this ancient basilica.
