Step by Step

In this activity you will have the opportunity, for about 13 hours, to visit the Golan Heights, a plateau located on the border between Syria and Israel, situated between 1,000 and 1,700 metres above sea level. The Golan Heights are known both for the beauty of their landscapes and for being one of the most strategically important places in the Middle East .

Throughout the activity, you will be accompanied by an expert guide, from whom you will learn many interesting facts about the culture and history of the places you will visit. On the way to the Heights, you will pass by Yardenit, a sacred baptismal site on the Jordan River, and Hamat Gader, an ancient spa town from where you can admire views of the Jordan-Israel border.

Once on the Golan Heights, explore the ancient village of Katzrin on a walking tour. You'll see the 6th century synagogue of this ancient town and marvel at the original Hebrew inscriptions that still decorate its walls today. Afterwards, you'll climb the peak of Mount Bental, from where you'll get a bird's-eye view of the Quneitra Valley in Syria.

The Golan Heights are an important source of water for the region, with several rivers and streams flowing from the plateau into neighbouring countries. It is also an important production area for wine and other agricultural products. Currently, the Golan Heights are the subject of controversy due to the territorial dispute between Israel and Syria.

During the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel captured most of the Golan Heights from Syria, and subsequently annexed the area in 1981. This annexation, however, is not recognised by most countries in the international community.

After the activity, you will return to Jerusalem after a day full of beauty, sightseeing, nature and history in one of the most beautiful and coveted regions of the Middle East.
