Step by Step

This bike tour lasts approximately 2 hours and takes you through the historic centre of the Hungarian capital. An expert guide will lead you along the cycle paths of Budapest, telling you about the history of buildings and monuments. The itinerary touches on the following attractions:

  • Szabadsag Ter (Freedom Square) - Authentic symbol of the struggle for independence. It was built after the revolution of 1849, when Lajos Kossuth declared Hungary's independence from the Habsburgs.
  • Parliament - Magnificent building in eclectic style and seat of the Hungarian National Assembly. Inside is the Dome Hall, which houses the crown, sceptre, globe and sword that belonged to the nation's founder.
  • Andrássy Út - The shopping street par excellence. It connects Deák Square with Heroes' Square (Hősök Tere) and is dotted with beautiful buildings. Among them, the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music, the Opera House, Café Muvész, Kodály Körönd Square and more.
  • Hősök Tere (Heroes' Square) - Monumental space built in 1896, on the occasion of the 1000th anniversary of the birth of Hungary. Its statues depict important figures in Magyar history, such as Árpád, the founder of the nation. It has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • Varosliget - One of the largest green areas in the city. In the past it was a hunting ground for the nobility, while since the 18th century it has been a public park much loved by the locals. Inside the park there is a small lake - which in winter is transformed into a skating rink - and the Vajdahunyad Castle.
  • Szent Istvan (St. Stephen's Basilica) - Built in neo-Renaissance style and dedicated to Stephen I of Hungary, the nation's first Christian king. From the dome you can admire a splendid panorama.

This tour is suitable for most people and does not require any special effort, as the city is not very steep. I only recommend that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes.
