Where to Eat in Versailles

The Palace of Versailles is an iconic landmark in France and one of the must-see tourist attractions you must visit during your trip to Paris.

It is located 25 kilometres from the capital and you may have to stay there for lunch due to schedules or because you get the itch early.

In this sense, when planning your visit, just as you find out about the types and prices of tickets for Versailles, how to get from Paris to Versailles, what to see in the Palace of Versailles complex and the opening hours of Versailles, you should also find out about good places to eat during your trip. Especially if you're going with children, who can't skip meals.

Take note of these 10 places to eat in Versailles where you can eat like a king - literally!

If you are travelling to Paris on a tight budget but would like to stay for lunch in the wonderful Palace of Versailles, a good idea is to go for a snack at Le Dauphin, located in the middle of the gardens.

It's also a good option if you want to take a break during your visit and want a quick bite to eat that won't take up too much of your time. The service is quick and the prices are quite affordable.

At Le Dauphin you can find simple savoury and sweet dishes or hot and cold dishes to kill your appetite. For example, sandwiches, fresh salads prepared on the spot, homemade wheat pancakes and ice cream, among other things. And you can order to eat in or take away if you want to have a picnic.

The restaurant La Flottille is a brasserie located opposite the canal in the Parc de Versailles with a magnificent view of the palace and a peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxing during the lunch break and enjoying traditional French cuisine of the highest quality.

La Flottille has two dining areas. One is the indoor dining room decorated in a charming vintage style and the other is the outdoor terrace. If the day is sunny, I recommend you to choose the second option because it is wonderful to eat there in the warmth of the sun.

As for the menu, this restaurant offers French-inspired dishes. The menu is varied, ranging from set menus and daily specials to à la carte dishes such as grills, salads, pastas, pizzas, meats and fish, among others.

The prices are reasonable and the service is attentive. In addition, La Flottille has a take away service if you want to order something to take away and have a picnic during your visit to Versailles.

Another place where you can enjoy a nice meal during your visit to the Palace of Versailles is Le Grand Café d'Orléans.

This is a spacious, contemporary-style café where you can sit down for a quick bite to eat when you're short on time on your tour of the Palace of Versailles and your appetite is getting a bit peckish.

Le Grand Café d'Orléans is a good place to unwind for a moment. It's not usually crowded with tourists so you can relax quietly over a coffee.

You can also order to eat in or take away if you want to have a picnic in the park. There is a wide variety of products to choose from, so you're sure to find something you like: from sandwiches and snacks to salads and pastries for those with a sweet tooth, among other things. If you're on a tighter budget and fancy a gourmet meal during your visit to the Palace of Versailles, I recommend a visit to Le Petite Venise- you'll love it!

This restaurant is located in a bucolic setting, between the Grand Canal and the Fountain of Apollo, in the heart of the Palace of Versailles. It is therefore a place with a very pleasant atmosphere that is perfectly suited to a romantic rendezvous, a family meal or a meal with friends. It is not for nothing that it is listed as a historical monument.

As for its menu, Le Petite Venise offers an Italian-inspired lunch made with fresh, seasonal products. If you have the opportunity and your trip to Paris coincides with spring in Paris or summer in Paris, I advise you to ask for a table on the terrace and enjoy a delicious plate of pasta in the sunshine and savour it with a good glass of wine.

  • Address: Jardins du château de Versailles Place d'Armes, All. d'Apollon, 78000 Versailles.

There's a bit of everything from hot and cold sandwiches, salads and burgers to pizza, pasta and crepes. If you're visiting Versailles with children, you can be sure to find something they'll love at La Girandola.

For visitors who want to take a short break in the surroundings of the Petit Trianon during their trip to Versailles and fancy a gourmet snack, my advice is to go to the terrace of Angelina Petit Trianon.

Here you can enjoy Parisian delicacies such as chocolate eclairs, tarte citron or mille-feuille, among many other delicious pastries - it's hard to leave Angelina Petit Trianon having had just one! Accompany them with a cup of tea or their famous hot chocolate and you'll be in seventh heaven.

For those who prefer savoury over sweet, this café also serves sandwiches such as croque-monsieur, salads or onion soup, to name but a few dishes.

Prices are on the mid-to-high end of the spectrum, but if you're on a budget or want to treat yourself, the experience is worth it.

Chez Tiouiche - Au Bon Accueil is outside the Palace of Versailles but close by. It is a restaurant inspired by North African cuisine, both in its menu and its decoration, where you can enjoy one of the best cous cous in Paris.

At Chez Tiouiche - Au Bon Accueil I recommend you order a little bit of everything from the menu to try the different flavours of Maghrebi cuisine such as tajine, cous cous, kefta kebabs or zalouk salad. And to top it all off... the desserts! They are delicious, especially the baklava with a cup of Moorish tea.

The restaurant is family-run and has a very pleasant atmosphere. The owners are very hospitable and go out of their way to make you feel at home.

Who doesn't like crepes? This is one of the most typical and most popular dishes in French cuisine, due to its rich flavour and versatility, as it can be found in both sweet and savoury versions.

If after your visit to the Palace of Versailles you fancy a few crepes, don't miss Creperie la Place, a small and cosy French-style restaurant where you can get your fill of them.

As well as this famous dish, at Creperie la Place you can also choose from other options on the menu such as salads and they even have a children's menu, ideal if you're going to Versailles with children. The value for money is pretty good and the service is friendly.

It's a friendly, family-run pizzeria with a quiet atmosphere. Perfect for a rest after a busy visit to the Palace of Versailles. The service is great and so are the prices.
The size of the pizzas is just right (you won't get hungry or stuffed) and what an aroma! If you're a pizza fan, you'll have a great time eating there.

If your visit to the Palace of Versailles coincides with the mildest weather in Paris and a sunny, clear day dawns, a great option for lunch there is to have a picnic to enjoy nature and the relaxed atmosphere of the area - you'll feel like the King of France himself!

At the Palace of Versailles you can have picnics by the Lake of the Swiss Guard or on the plain of Saint-Antoine, between the palace and the Trianon palaces. It's a great idea if you're going on a family outing and want the kids to have fun playing outdoors, or if you fancy surprising your partner with a romantic moment.

Within Versailles there are several places where you can buy picnic food such as La Flottille, Le Grand Café d'Orléans, La Girandole or Dauphin's Groves. All of them have a take-away service.
