Eating Near the Moulin Rouge

Moulin Rouge | ©Karina lago

What better place to eat than in the Moulin Rouge itself. Aside from the Féerie show, you can enjoy a gourmet menu in the legendary room and experience the full experience. You may think it's just a ploy to make the ticket price more expensive, but the Moulin Rouge's cuisine is backed by a team of professionals who offer dishes to match the show. So I recommend you book tickets for the Moulin Rouge with dinner and transport.

But if you don't want to choose this option, no problem. Fortunately, the Moulin Rouge is located in the Montmartre district. And I say fortunately because this neighbourhood is one of the best places to enjoy French gastronomy. There are many restaurants and cafés to enjoy before or after seeing the most famous show in the French capital. If you read on, I'll share with you the best options for your palate and your wallet.

When you book your ticket to the Moulin Rouge you can include a dinner to match the establishment's fame. You can also book a table without seeing the show. Dinner with a show is only available at the 21:00 show at the Moulin Rouge.

The restaurant offers several menus named after celebrities associated with the Moulin Rouge, as well as à la carte dishes. There are vegetarian and even children's options. The cuisine is made with seasonal products, so the menu varies according to the season. Based on traditional French cuisine with international fusion, the restaurant and service are on a par with the spectacle of the Moulin Rouge.

This well-known restaurant in Montmartre is located halfway between the Moulin Rouge and the Sacré Coeur. It is a very peculiar place, with a lot of personality and far from the image of the typical quiet and idyllic French restaurant for romantic evenings.

This is a very busy place, where you can leave your signature on the walls and the wine is served in bottles. Strange as it sounds, it is very popular in the area because of this. If you're looking for a different, livelier atmosphere and good food, Le Refuge des Fondues is a restaurant you must visit.

  • Where: Rue des Trois-Freres, five minutes from the Moulin Rouge.
  • Average price per person: 20-30 euros.
  • Recommended dish: The cheese fondue.
  • Ideal for: Groups of friends or people in a party mood.

Another typical French bistro, but specialising in meat. Or at least it owes its fame to its menu of meats and the sauces they prepare to accompany them. Please note that if you are combining the Moulin Rouge show with dinner or lunch at a nearby restaurant, you will most likely have to do so before entering. Meals are not a problem, but the show is at 9pm and 11pm so you will need to eat dinner beforehand.

This is no problem as restaurants in Paris open their kitchens for dinner around 7pm and some don't close until midnight. Mealtimes in Paris are between 12 noon and 2pm and breakfast is no problem as cafés open early and don't close until late afternoon or evening.

You won't have to worry about tipping if you eat or dine in a restaurant in Paris. By law it is already included in the bill and usually carries a 15% service charge. You're not obliged to leave extra, but as everywhere else it's a welcome gesture.
