Cannes is a beautiful city surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea. This makes it a must-see destination when visiting the French Riviera. Although the city is mainly known for its Film Festival, there are many other events and activities you can do during your trip.

Among the best things to do in Cannes you can enjoy the beaches, take a boat trip for swimming or snorkelling, taste fresh seasonal produce on a gastronomic tour, cycle around the city on an electric bike and much more. Here are the activities I consider essential.

1. Take a boat trip in the Bay of Cannes

With the arrival of the pleasant June temperatures in Cannes, it's the perfect time to book a boat trip and take part in various water activities.

The Bay of Cannes has wonderful landscapes and seascapes that you can discover if you choose to go snorkelling in the sea.

For this, you will be advised by an instructor who will tell you everything you need to know before starting the activity. If in addition to this experience you want to do other similar activities, then choose one of the best boat tours from Cannes.

Useful information

  • Price: from 66€ per person.
  • Duration: approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Advantages: you will be provided with the equipment for safe snorkelling.

June marks the transition to summer in Cannes, so it's an ideal opportunity to take a tour of the city in the nicer weather.

But I suggest something a little different to make your experience a lot more fun: book a Segway tour of Cannes.

You can join a small group of people and see sights such as the famous Palais des Festivals et des Congres, Le Suquet village, Rue d'Antibes and La Croisette avenue.

Useful information

  • Price: from 53€ per person.
  • Duration: approximately 2 hours.
  • Your benefits: you will be accompanied by a local guide, who will tell you little-known stories about the city and the places you visit.

3. Celebrate International Bike Day

As 3 June each year is International Bike Day, a perfect way to celebrate is to book a tour of Cannes on an electric bike.

This is an ideal excursion if you want to visit Cannes in 2 days where you will contribute to the environment while getting to know the most emblematic places of Cannes such as:

  • La Croisette boulevard
  • The old port
  • Le Suquet district
  • The waterfront area

Useful information

  • Price: usually around €68 per person.
  • Duration: between 2 and 3 hours.
  • Advantages: you'll be able to get around the city without having to make much physical effort, as you'll be on board an e-bike.

4. Taste the fresh produce

In June, Cannes is full of new harvests of fruit and vegetables and fresh, seasonal produce. For a taste, I recommend booking a gastronomic tour of Cannes, as it's the perfect way to see the best places and the best dishes.

But there's always the option of going on your own. And for that, here are some of the best areas to try the best.

Rue Meynadier

This is one of the oldest streets in the city and is home to several restaurants offering a variety of local gastronomic recipes. Among the options you can visit are La Cuisine d'Aqui, La Perle Restaurant and La Farigoule.

The popular market

The Provençal market of Forville is located only 6 minutes away from the previous destination. Here you will find a wide variety of locally grown produce, full of freshness and authentic flavour.

You can also, if you wish, buy fresh fish caught every day by local fishermen.

Le Suquet district

Your gastronomic experience in Cannes will not be complete without a visit to the Le Suquet quarter. This area is full of various food stalls and restaurants which, together with the view from the hill, is an ideal destination to stimulate your senses.

You can visit restaurants such as L'endroit cannes, Happen Bar Cannes Cocktails & Tapas and L'enoteca.

5. Take a trip to Monaco

Monaco is a special country, as it is the second smallest in the world. Many people think that it is part of France, but it is not, as it is independent. But best of all, it's only a 1 hour drive from Cannes, making it a perfect excursion on your visit to the French city.

No problem if you don't have a car, as you can book an excursion to Monaco from Cannes and go in an organised group with a professional guide.

Want to experience luxury and glamour on the shores of the Mediterranean and see the famous Grand Casino in Monte Carlo with your own eyes? Then you can't miss this getaway in one of the best times to do it because of the good weather.

6. Ferry to Saint Tropez

Saint Tropez is one of the most beautiful cities on the Côte d'Azur and, like Monaco, it also exudes luxury and glamour, as for years it was the destination of the international upper class.

Despite its ostentatiousness, Saint Tropez still retains its humble, fishermen's essence, particularly in the La Ponche neighbourhood. If this has caught your attention, I also recommend you take advantage of the good weather in June to book your ticket for the ferry to and from Saint Tropez.

For 15 minutes you will sail along the beautiful coastline with incredible views of the French Riviera and, on arrival, you will have 5 hours completely free to explore Saint Tropez and then return to Cannes by ferry. You really can't miss it. For me it's a perfect experience.

7. Take part in the International Festival of Creativity

In mid-June, Cannes gets creative with the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

Whether you are interested in the creative world or just curious, you can take part in the activities organised as part of the Festival by registering for workshops on creativity, marketing, leadership, sustainability and many other issues of great importance in today's world.

You can also participate as an audience and vote for the most creative ads that managed to communicate their message in an original way. Another way to participate in the event is by simply submitting your idea or initiative.

Useful information

  • Venue: the festival events are usually held at the Cannes Congress and the Palais des Festivals.
  • Duration: approximately one week.

8. Enjoy sunny days on the beaches

Whether you plan to spend 3 days in Cannes or more during June, you should take advantage of the warm temperatures this month and venture out to spend a different kind of day at some of the beaches that make up the French Riviera:

  • La Plage Macé: just a 9-minute walk from the centre. It offers fine sand that is not uncomfortable to walk on.
  • La Croisette Beach Cannes: close to La Croisette promenade, it is easily accessible. It offers calm waves and is located 2 minutes away from Plage Macé.
  • Carlton Beach: very close to the centre and you can observe the Bay of Cannes in all its splendour and enjoy the sun on a sun lounger.

9. Play Finding Fairy Tales

If you're travelling to Cannes with your family in June, you can make the most of the good weather and sunny days by playing Finding Fairy Tales, an outdoor mobile game.

It involves wandering the streets of the city discovering clues, completing tasks and delving into stories inspired by the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales, a unique opportunity to interact with the environment.

As you uncover riddles, find hidden tales that were never published and complete other tasks, you will accumulate points that will lead you to be the winner. The idea is that you will visit about 15 places in the defined space.

Interesting information

  • Price: the price of this activity is approximately €12 for groups of up to six people.
  • Duration: from 1.5 to 3 hours.
  • Advantages: you will experience fun family moments discovering unpublished fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm.

10. Take a photo tour of Cannes

Take advantage of the change of seasons towards summer to capture the peculiar colours, the light, the panoramic views and the perspectives that the city offers during the days of June.

Just grab your camera and head out into the city to capture beautiful images. Among the options for taking pictures, these are my favourites:

  • The Palais des Festivals: this is where the Cannes Film Festival is held and you will have the red carpet and the stairs where countless artists have paraded.
  • The Old Port: you can take pictures at different times of the day and take advantage of the natural daylight to capture the yachts, the blue sky and the contrast between the sand and the sea, or during the night hours to get orange tones.
  • The Henry Peter BroughamMonument: surrounded by palm trees and picturesque facades, it provides a beautiful backdrop.

11. Stroll through the Vieux Port de Cannes

June is the ideal time to visit the Vieux Port de Cannes, as the arrival of the summer solstice brings warm weather and an incredible view of the sea.

You can stroll along the quayside at your own pace, while feeling the sea breeze caress your face. This picturesque harbour, built during the 1950s and managed by Igy Marinas, is one of the city's landmarks.

Snoop around the luxurious yachts and fishing boats on site and climb up to the terraces of the restaurants and bars lining the quayside for amazing sunset views.

12. See the temporary exhibitions at the Musée de la Castre

The Castre Museum is a historic building dating back to the 17th and 19th centuries, where you'll find primitive art displays and colourful panoramas from the structure's square tower.

As you wander through this museum, you'll see various objects and items typical of the Mediterranean, in ethnology and archaeology collections. One of the most interesting attractions is the display of various musical instruments from different parts of the world.

On the other hand, if you want to get an exceptional view and the best pictures of the Bay of Cannes, you will have to climb up the square tower a total of 109 steps. Also, don't forget to see the collection of paintings from the Orient and the collections of primitive art from the Himalayas.

Useful information

  • Price: around 6,50€ per person and around 3,50€ for visitors aged 18-25 and groups of 10 people.
  • Opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00.
